Ben & Jerry’s Foundation, The California Endowment, Hill-Snowdon Foundation, and Liberty Hill Foundation Win Award from Philanthropy Watchdog Group
2014 NCRP Impact Awards recognizes foundations that have shown leadership, innovation and commitment to solving the country’s toughest problems
Washington, D.C. – Today, the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) announced the recipients of its 2014 NCRP Impact Awards, which honors foundations that practice smart, high-impact philanthropic strategies that cultivate meaningful change in communities across the country.
Each year through the NCRP Impact Awards, NCRP recognizes four foundations of all shapes and sizes that are committed to effective philanthropy that empowers and strengthens communities. The 2014 awardees are:
Ben & Jerry’s Foundation
Awardee for Corporate Foundation
Ben & Jerry’s Foundation is known for working to advance social and environmental justice and encouraging safe and sustainable food systems. Their grantees played an important role in securing driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants in Vermont.
The California Endowment
Awardee for Large Private Foundation
The California Endowment is a top player in expanding access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities. The foundation and its grantees helped secure passage and proper implementation of the Affordable Care Act, ensuring that millions in California and around the nation have health insurance.
Hill-Snowdon Foundation
Awardee for Mid-Sized Private Foundation
Hill-Snowdon Foundation is committed to its vision of a fair and just society where low-income families and communities can thrive. The foundation’s grantees played a key role in securing an increase in the minimum wage for D.C. and Maryland.
Liberty Hill Foundation
Awardee for Community Foundation
Over the years, Liberty Hill has demonstrated a strong commitment to economic and environmental justice, and LGBTQ equality. Its grantees played an important role in securing passage of legislation that protects the rights of domestic workers in California.
As the country’s only independent watchdog of foundations, NCRP inaugurated the Impact Awards in 2013 to honor foundations that embody the ideals of impactful grantmaking.
“This year’s 2014 NCRP Impact Awardees are a class above other foundations in the country,” said NCRP Executive Director Aaron Dorfman. “Their boldness, commitment to addressing the needs of the underserved and dedication to strategies that change lives for the better is an inspiration to all who seek to be changemakers in their communities.”
