NCRP Supports Southern Poverty Law Center and Decries ‘Outrageous and Hypocritical’ Actions of Fidelity Charitable
National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy President and CEO Aaron Dorfman said, “It’s outrageous and hypocritical that Fidelity Charitable has ceased processing donations for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), an organization that does vital work.”
Fidelity has moved millions of dollars to hate groups. In 2019 alone, more than $40 million went from Fidelity’s donor-advised funds to regressive organizations. These organizations, which advocate to prevent certain people from voting, to reverse equality wins for LGBTQ+ people, and to bolster anti-immigrant policies, were able to receive resources through Fidelity Charitable.
Dorfman continued, “For Fidelity to prevent their DAF holders from supporting SPLC simply because the government has made unsubstantiated allegations is ridiculous. Shame on Fidelity for this cowardly approach.”
Donors are free to move their DAFs to another organization if they choose. Many community foundations will still process donations to SPLC, as will Assets Under Movement (formerly Amalgamated Charitable Foundation) and Tides Foundation.
