National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy Announces Two New Board Members

Bill Bynum and Kate Villers join philanthropy watchdog’s board of directors

Washington, D.C. (10/3/2014) – The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) welcomed two new remarkable nonprofit leaders to its dynamic board of directors during its board meeting on Tuesday, September 30.

Bill Bynum is CEO of HOPE (Hope Enterprise Corporation/Hope Credit Union), a regional community development financial institution, intermediary and policy center that provides financial services to entrepreneurs, homebuyers and community development projects in distressed communities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Katherine S. Villers is the president and founder for Community Catalyst, a national nonprofit that builds state-level advocacy networks and consumer leadership to improve health and health care.

“We are excited and honored to have Bill and Kate as new members of our board,” said Sherece West-Scantlebury, president and CEO of Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and chair of NCRP’s board of directors. “Their exemplary leadership, diverse experience and commitment to serving the underserved would boost NCRP’s efforts to promote philanthropic practices that are responsive to the needs of our communities.”

NCRP also announced that Diane Feeney, former executive director of the French American Charitable Trust, and Ai-jen Poo, executive director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, have stepped down from the board due to term limits and other factors.

“We are very grateful to Diane and Ai-jen for their leadership, vision and passion for philanthropy at its best. Their commitment to NCRP helped make the organization better and stronger,” said Aaron Dorfman, executive director of NCRP.

Feeney served as NCRP’s board chair for four years. Under her leadership, the organization executed an ambitious strategic plan that included documenting the return on investing in nonprofit advocacy and community engagement and the need for philanthropy to prioritize underserved communities.
