Society needs a system of experimentation to develop new ways to solve its thorniest problems, and philanthropy, operating without government’s constraints, has traditionally provided that system, said Aaron Dorfman, president and CEO of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy.
Having unconstrained, private resources allows foundations to try and fail — and sometimes, succeed, he said.
“The world is constantly changing. We have to have a variety of ways we adapt and respond to that … often that comes from philanthropy.”
