Donald Trump’s charitable activities throughout the U.S. could be halted after New York’s attorney general told the organization to stop fundraising.

The Trump Foundation is not registered as a charitable organization in New York, a state that requires charities to register with the Attorney General’s office, provide by-laws and internal rules of the charity for review, apply for tax-exempt status and provide financial documents.

While Trump’s organization hasn’t filled out the proper paperwork, the Eric Trump Foundation, belonging to his son, does meet all the requirements to fundraise in New York. Aaron Dorfman, president of the National Committee for Responsible Philanthropy, said there’s no excuse for the elder Trump’s foundation to operate without registering.
