Over the last decade, as the public has confronted a steady stream of crises — economic, political, ecological — advocates have steadily called on foundations to increase their spending and get money in the hands of operating charities as fast as possible.
With the arrival of the coronavirus, those appeals have, appropriately enough, reached fever pitch. As Aaron Dorfman and Ellen Dorsey eloquently insisted in the Chronicle, “for philanthropy, it is the time to spend more.”
