Consumer Health Foundation, Evelyn & Walter Haas Jr. Fund, Patagonia, Sandler Foundation Named 2016 NCRP Impact Awardees
Philanthropy watchdog group honors grantmakers whose smart philanthropy empowers communities to create real change
Washington, D.C. (3/8/16) – Today, the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) announced the winners of the 2016 NCRP Impact Awards, which honors foundations in the United States committed to exemplary grantmaking, diversity and inclusion, and empowering and strengthening marginalized communities.
“This year’s awardees embody smart philanthropy by empowering the people they serve to create real change,” said Jeanné Isler, field director of NCRP. “They’re doing important work to leverage their dollars to tackle our society’s toughest problems, making visible strides in health, the environment, LGBTQ rights and more.”
The NCRP Impact Awards began in 2013 as a way to honor foundations that embody the ideals of high-impact philanthropy. The awardees will be celebrated at a reception during the Grantmakers for Effective Organizations’ Conference in Minneapolis on May 3.

- Consumer Health Foundation, Awardee for Small/Midsized Private FoundationThis Washington, D.C., foundation is dedicated to making a difference in the health of the community. CHF advocates for health and racial equity through programs and investments that advance the health and well-being of low-income communities and communities of color.
- Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, Awardee for Large Private FoundationInspired by the vitality of its hometown of San Francisco, the Haas, Jr. Fund seeks to fulfill its founders’ vision of a just and compassionate society where all people have the opportunity to live, work and raise their families with dignity.
- Patagonia, Awardee for Corporate FoundationBased in Ventura City, California, Patagonia’s grantmaking arm supports small, grassroots, activist organizations with provocative direct-action agendas, working on multi-pronged campaigns to preserve and protect our environment.
- Sandler Foundation, Awardee for Grantmaking Public CharityBased in San Francisco, California, Sandler Foundation invests in strategic organizations and exceptional leaders that seek to improve the rights, opportunities and well-being of others, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. Its grantees work to advance policy change and innovative scientific research to improve health.
