Ryan Schlegel, one of the authors of the report and a senior associate for research at NCRP, said food banks, homeless shelters and other programs benefit from large scale philanthropy, but do little to address the root causes of such societal problems.
“What we’re seeing is that these large-scale national organizations are more interested in telling local organizations what they need instead of asking them,” he said. “They may see a lack of infrastructure, a lack of capacity.”
