Overview of Reproductive Access/Gendered Violence Movement
What does reproductive and gender justice mean at NCRP? In partnership with the leaders and groups that are part of the “Reproductive Access and Gendered Violence Movement,” we sought to create an inclusive, transparent and coherent lens for our work.
It is specifically rooted two current terms:
Reproductive Access: Reproductive justice is a framework centering the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. It means supporting both Birth Justice and Abortion access efforts, not choosing between the two.
Gendered Violence: This portion of our work includes physical and sexual violence but also considers state and economic violence. Historically, movements that have centered domestic violence and intimate partner violence focus their efforts on ciswomen rather than taking a more intersectional definition of what safety means for different communities, including the most marginalized.
We are linking these two terms because we fundamentally cannot systematically eliminate gender inequality and violence against women, girls, gender expansive folks, and LGBTQIA+ people without lifting barriers that exist to their sexual and reproductive health and rights as well as their mental and physical safety.
